Refund policy

At Layered, we take pride in supplying only authentic, high-quality fragrances. Due to the personal and hygienic nature of perfumes, all return requests are subject to the conditions below.

Nothing in this policy limits or excludes any rights you may have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or any other applicable South African law.

1. Return Request Period

If you wish to return an eligible item, you must notify Layered within 3 calendar days of receiving your order.

Requests submitted after the 3-day period may not be accepted unless the product is defective or your rights under the Consumer Protection Act apply.

2. Products Eligible for Return

Returns will only be considered if:

  • The item is completely unopened.
  • The original cellophane shrink wrap is intact and untampered with.
  • The factory seal has not been broken.
  • The fragrance has never been sprayed or tested.
  • The product is returned in its original packaging with all labels and inserts.
  • You provide proof of purchase.

Layered reserves the right to inspect every returned product before approving a refund or exchange.

3. Products That Cannot Be Returned

For hygiene, quality assurance and authenticity reasons, the following products cannot be returned:

  • Opened perfume bottles.
  • Perfumes with broken or removed cellophane.
  • Products that have been sprayed or tested.
  • Products with damaged packaging.
  • Gift cards.
  • Clearance or promotional items marked as final sale.
  • Free gifts included with an order.

Once the factory seal has been broken, the product is considered used and cannot be resold as new.

4. Change of Mind

We do not accept returns because:

  • you no longer want the fragrance;
  • you ordered the wrong fragrance;
  • you dislike the scent;
  • the fragrance was different from your expectations;
  • someone else purchased it for you;
  • you found the item cheaper elsewhere.

Fragrance preference is subjective and does not constitute a product defect.

5. Damaged, Incorrect or Defective Products

Please inspect your order immediately upon delivery.

If you receive:

  • the incorrect fragrance;
  • a damaged item;
  • an incomplete order; or
  • a product with a manufacturing defect,

you must notify Layered within 48 hours of delivery by emailing:

support@layerr.co.za

Please include:

  • your order number;
  • photographs of the product;
  • photographs of the packaging;
  • photographs of the shipping box;
  • a description of the issue.

Failure to report transit damage within 48 hours may affect our ability to claim against the courier.

6. Defective Products

If a fragrance develops a genuine manufacturing defect after opening, your rights will be dealt with in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act.

A manufacturing defect may include:

  • faulty atomizer/pump;
  • leaking bottle caused by manufacturing;
  • contamination;
  • manufacturing faults affecting normal use.

The following are not considered defects:

  • disliking the scent;
  • longevity expectations;
  • projection expectations;
  • personal skin chemistry;
  • natural colour variations between production batches;
  • minor cosmetic imperfections on outer packaging that do not affect the product.

Layered reserves the right to inspect any alleged defect before approving a remedy.

7. Return Approval

Returns will not be accepted without prior written approval.

If your request is approved, you will receive:

  • return instructions;
  • the return address; and
  • a Return Authorization reference.

Items returned without authorization may be refused and returned to the sender.

8. Return Shipping

Unless the product is defective or supplied incorrectly:

  • the customer is responsible for return shipping costs;
  • the customer assumes all risk until the parcel reaches Layered.

We recommend using a tracked and insured courier service.

9. Inspection Process

Every returned item undergoes an inspection.

If inspection confirms the item:

  • has been opened;
  • has been sprayed;
  • has been tampered with;
  • has missing packaging;
  • has been damaged after delivery,

the return will be rejected and returned to the customer.

10. Refunds

Where a refund is approved, it will be processed using the original payment method.

Refunds exclude:

  • original shipping charges;
  • expedited delivery fees;
  • gift wrapping charges.

Approved refunds are generally processed within 7–10 business days, although banking institutions may require additional processing time.

11. Exchanges

Exchanges are only available where:

  • the incorrect item was supplied; or
  • a manufacturing defect has been confirmed.

Layered does not exchange fragrances because of personal preference.

12. Authenticity Guarantee

Every fragrance sold by Layered is sourced from authorized suppliers or verified distributors.

Because authenticity cannot be guaranteed once a fragrance leaves our control, we cannot accept returns of opened fragrances.

This protects every customer from receiving products that may have been altered, diluted or contaminated after delivery.

13. Fraud Prevention

To protect our customers and business, Layered reserves the right to:

  • refuse suspicious return requests;
  • request additional verification;
  • photograph returned products;
  • record serial numbers, batch numbers and barcode information;
  • refuse repeat or excessive return requests where fraud is suspected.

Fraudulent return claims may be reported to the relevant authorities.

14. Consumer Protection Act

Nothing contained in this policy limits any rights afforded to consumers under:

  • Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008
  • Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002

Where South African law provides consumers with mandatory rights, those rights will always prevail.
